Deportivo Pereira
By the year 1944 various teams belonged to the city. Some of these teams were HURACAN, PATRIA, INTERNACIONAL, VIDRIOCOL, FBC, Y OTUN FUTBOL CLUB. VIDRIOCOL & OTUN FBC were the strongest and were always in the finals.

The rivalry among these two teams created much hostility between the fans. In order to keep a less hostile environment the police and local authorities decided to create one team for the people.

In the first week of February of 1944, there was a meeting with all the people that were cited to assist. That day the "Deportivo Pereira" was established and formed
From each team a delegate was chosen Gabriel Cardona for OTUN FBC and Luis Carlos Marulanda for VIDRIOCOL FBC seven players were chosen from each team. The first president appointed to the team was Guillermo Valencia. Since then Deportivo Pereira has been a member of the Colombian professional soccer division.
